Why your cake topper will not look like you
We scored 8 toppers on likeness. Then we showed each to the people. Scores and people disagreed. This holds for hand-sculpted clay and full-colour 3D printing.
Makers build one good angle
Every vendor photo shows the front. That is on purpose. It is the view the topper was built for. On all 3 clay toppers and all the 3D-printed ones we bought, the front looked about right: brow, nose, smile, hair. Behind that, the maker let it go plain.
Walk around the cake and the face changes. The side of a face holds most of who you are: the nose bridge, the chin, the jaw, how the head sits on the neck. None of that came out right. The WorksIsen bride below shows it best. From the front she passes. From the side she is a whole different woman.

When a vendor sends a proof, ask for a side view too. 6 of 8 vendors sent a proof at all. Every one showed only the front. It takes one line. Before the topper exists, it is the best thing you can do.
Send a side photo as an input, too. Just 1 order here had one. It was the only time we thought to. No vendor asked.
What the people depicted actually said
Our raters scored each topper blind. They used only its frames and our photos. Then we showed them to the couples. Two different calls. The couple's call is the one you pay for.

Both top toppers got a 7 for likeness. But the people said both look nothing like them. A 7 means a stranger would call it a fair match to the photos. It does not mean your mom will know you.
This is not a clay-versus-print argument
Across our metrics, clay beats the prints. That settles nothing. For the real couples, the clay fell into the uncanny valley. Close enough to a face to ask the question. Wrong enough to fail it. The prints fail another way. Statu3D smudged a beard into speckled sandstone. Figuro made a bride who is a different person. Both dropped the glasses, the first thing either would name about their face.
One kind looked wrong to no one. It never tried to look right. SnapFigures stylises so hard the uncanny valley never opens. Funko does not try for a likeness at all. That is a real choice, but a taste buy. You must be a Funko person to want a Funko on your cake. The same goes for chibi.
The honest summary
No vendor here made a topper the people called a match. A maker may promise a likeness. Treat that as a hope. Buy a topper you would still love. Love it even if the faces are strangers.
